Welcome to Year 1

Welcome to Year 1!

We are so proud of how well everybody has settled into their new classrooms and teachers! We have had such an amazing start to the year with all of our learning, check out what we have been up to below:

Writing

In writing we have been learning about the story The Pirates Next Door. First, we explored what a pirate would wear! We had to sort clothes into pirate items or school uniform! We then learnt a brand new word…. ADJECTIVE! An adjective is a describing word. We have been generating adjectives and using them in sentences to describe different pirates and their emotions! Watch out because we are describing our own pirates too!

Maths

In maths we have been developing our counting skills! We have been sorting items and counting how many of them there are. We use our steps to success of ‘touch it, say it, move it’! Next week we are moving on to finding one more and one less of numbers.  Can you practise your counting at home?

Science

Head, shoulders, knees and toes…. yes you guessed it! We are learning about our human body! We have learnt about our different body parts and how they help us! This week we are applying this by learning about our senses! We are going to be thinking about how our senses help us in everyday life!
