Pip and Pap Parent  and Pupil Workshop

Year 2 at Mansel Park have been reading Purple Phase Book 2 "The Watchmaker," in their parent and child workshop this week!

They recapped some alternative pronunciations for graphemes already met - including the letter 'a' pronounced as /ai/, /o/ or /ar/, in words such as apron, watch and grass, the letter 'e' pronounced as /ee/ in words such as 'equals', the letter 'i' pronounced as /igh/ in words like mind, the letter 'o' pronounced as /oa/ in words like 'most', and the letter 'u' pronounced /y+oo/ in words like tulip or the short /u/ as in 'bull'.

Pupils and parents enjoyed reading the story together, spotting the alternative pronunciations and answering comprehension questions about the story.

In this book, Dad has a spring clean and tidies the house! He puts a bunch of tulips on the table. Pupils and parents made their own beautiful tulips for display and had a discussion about different jobs around the house and how everyone can be helpful in looking after where they live!

We run parent and child phonics workshops each week in Years R - 2. It has been lovely to see so many parents coming along - all are welcome and you will always have something to take home at the end of each session! Please ask your child's class teacher for more details.
