Eco Warrior Update!
Welcome home Hedgehog!
At the end of last half term we welcomed Clare Connolly, a Senior Ranger from Southampton City Council, to Mansel Park along with a Hedgehog house for our school grounds.
Clare met with our Eco team and discussed hedgehogs with them. Unfortunately, she shared the sad news that numbers over the past few years have lessened greatly. Therefore, our Eco team have decided to play a part in protecting the species and we are now the home to a hedgehog house. We scoped the school grounds to find a safe location for the little home and hopefully we will soon be able to say that hedgehogs have become part of the Mansel Park family. The team thought about where there will be plenty of mini beasts as hedgehogs are carnivores: we have chosen a bug hot spot located close to bushes!
In the session with Clair, the children learned that hedgehogs hibernate through the winter and love to stay warm, therefore we have provided straw and dry leaves in our house ready for the hedgehogs when they arrive.
We look forward to updating you soon with some positive news.
