Welcome to Year 5

Welcome to the Year 5 blog!

Year 5 have had an amazing start to this year. They have been working very hard, and have produced some fantastic work.

In writing, we have been writing a spooky setting description. Some of the pieces were so scary that they even gave the teachers nightmares! We have selected descriptive language to unnerve the reader, and create a creepy image in the reader’s mind. We really enjoyed choosing scary language, and using interesting sentence types in our work; we were very proud of our final pieces.

In maths, we have been learning about place value and addition. We have represented numbers up to 1 million, and have added numbers with exchanges. To challenge ourselves we have been attempting some tricky word problems where we have had to apply our new learning.

We have learnt many interesting things about materials in Science. As well as being able to explain the difference between solids, liquids and gases, we can now also identify reversible and irreversible changes and have explored solubility.

A particular highlight this half-term was our trip to Calshot Activity Centre. We had an amazing day and got to try lots of exciting activities including: skiing, rock climbing and archery. We learnt how to work as a team, and push ourselves to do new things. Here are a few pictures of us having fun:
