Year 2 – Autumn 2 blog

Writing update

In writing this week, we had an absolute disaster! We came into the classroom to find that all of the chairs had gone on strike! Can you believe it? We had received a letter from them explaining that they will not be returning to us until they have received an apology letter for treating them badly. We didn’t realise that they didn’t like us swinging on them, putting our feet on them or not tucking them in. We felt a little bit guilty so got straight to work writing them a letter to show them how much we appreciate them. Thankfully, the chair decided to come back to us after we gave them our letter. Phew!

Maths update

So far in our maths lessons, we have learnt all about place value using tens and ones and have used this to help us when adding 2 numbers together. This week, we have been learning all about subtraction. We have been using maths stories to show what we start with, then what happens to the number to find out what we have at the end.

In order to solve these problems, we have been using our place value knowledge of tens and ones. We are getting really confident in solving number sentences and will be moving on to solving trickier problems.

Science update

In Science, we have been really enjoying learning all about animals and their habitats. We have found it really interesting comparing the different habitats such as the desert, polar regions, rainforest and ocean. We can’t wait to continue to find out more facts!
