Year 2 Update.

Adventurous Autumn in Year 2!

To celebrate National Poetry Day and this year’s theme ‘The Environment’, we chose to create circle poems with our classes. Because the children have learnt about life cycles in nature, we thought that circle poems would reflect the circular nature of life and the environment. We decided to use our natural surroundings as our inspiration for our poems as well. With the children, we searched for examples of circular objects which occur in nature such as snail shells, stones and tree trunks. Before taking things out of nature, we had a class discussion about the importance of not removing and replacing objects for natural study work. We discussed the importance of nature and the eco-system in order to understand the important role every piece of nature plays on our planet.

In maths we have been practising our addition skills. We have been using our tens and ones knowledge to help us solve problems. We have been using dienes when adding tens numbers and 2 digit numbers, we are growing in confidence daily!

Our class book at the moment in George’s Marvellous Medicine. In writing, we received a letter from George telling us how fed up he is with his mean, nasty Grandma! You will never believe what happened next! She asked us to write a recipe for a potion to make his Grandma into the Grandma of his dreams! We are writing our recipes at the moment and will be sending them back off to George to help solve his very difficult problem!
