Year 5 swimming

What an amazing week we had at Oaklands pool! Not only did we learn and build our previous swimming skills but our confidence and enjoyment in water has grown in leaps and bounds as well!

Throughout the week we learnt about poolside safety such as walking around the pool, talking calmly and only jumping in the deep end of the pool when we knew it was safe to do so, guided by the swimming coach.

In red group this week we practiced lots of different strokes such as front glide and back glide. As the week went on, we became more confident putting our faces in the water. In some lessons we used floatation aids to help us and by the end of the week we were able to swim independently on our fronts!

In blue group we learnt how to complete a front and back crawl confidently ensuring our arms and legs worked together to help us move. We had a lot of fun using floatation devices during our safety training to help each other. We had to show a lot of perseverance as the week went on especially when we felt tired or found a skill challenging.

In Yellow group the week we learnt how to swim safely on our backs and fronts working on kicking our legs underwater to help us move. We had lots of fun jumping safely into the water. Our determination throughout the week has helped us become confident and independent swimmers.

This week was an exciting new learning experience as well as a great way to exercise. We can now use the skills we have learnt to enjoy ourselves around water and keep ourselves safe too!
