Year 2 - Marwell Zoo

This half term, Year 2 were lucky enough to go on a school trip. We went to Marwell

Zoo! After a very exciting coach journey, we finally arrived. We took a walk around

the zoo and we spotted lots of different animals.

One of our favourites was the Snow Leopard. It was a little bit tricky to spot but we

finally found him sunbathing on top of the rocks. We couldn’t believe how close we

were to a dangerous animal! We also saw another dangerous animal… a python!

Thankfully he was in a cage but it was amazing to look at. We couldn’t believe how

long he was!

After a very rainy lunchtime, we made our way over to the Tropical house. It was so

hot in there, which was lucky because we all felt a little bit chilly. Inside the rainforest,

we were so excited that we managed to spot the sloth because we were told by the

zoo keepers that he loves to hide. We found out that his name was Santos and that

he was 8 years old.

Luckily when we came out of the tropical house, the sun had come out and we were

able to carry on our trip around the zoo without getting wet. We walked past lots of

other animals including a huge tiger on our way to see the giraffes .When we got to

the giraffes, they were all outside eating from the tallest trees. We even got to

measure ourselves next to a giraffe to see how much we would need to grow to be

as tall as one. We only came up to about half way up their legs!

The last animal that we saw were the penguins. We loved them! They were so cute

and loved to dive and swim in the water. We were so lucky because we got to see

the penguins at feeding time! They loved eating all the fish! It was a fantastic day!
