Mansel Remembers

On the 11th November 2022, we came together as a school family to remember those who have perished in conflict. We spoke about veterans, military personnel, medical professionals, police officers and fire-fighters. The children discussed the role that they have and how they have sacrificed their lives to help others in times of conflict.

We read the poem, ‘In Flanders Field’ by John McCrae and discussed the 150th anniversary mark of his birth. We learnt about the different coloured poppies and who they represent. Teachers came up to read Remembrance poems written by our Year 6 pupils.

 

Each child decorated their own poppy with their family name and we joined them altogether to create a memorial at the front of our hall. All of the children stood and respectfully observed a 2 minute silence whilst the bugle played ‘The Last Post’ in the background, remembering the anniversary of when World War One ended and
