Nursery blog

At nursery this week, the children have been exploring shape.

We discovered that we can draw a variety of shapes on our playground. Look at the shapes we have made.

“Look I made a circle”

“Look, I coloured the square”

The nursery grown-ups have thought of exciting ways for us to continue to develop our shape awareness with a shape hunt around our environment and we use tap tap to create shape pictures, ‘Tap tap’ is a fine motor activity where we can use shapes, a pin and a hammer.

“Look I made a face, Can you see it?”

“Look i made a person”

We have been reading ‘Walter’s wonderful web’ by Tim Hopgood. Walter is a spider who makes webs of different shapes. We read the book to see which shape or shapes are best for Walter’s web. Sam also helped us to learn new rhymes for our most familiar shapes. Please continue to sing these at home.

Our shape rhymes

Circle

A circle is like a ball,

A square is like a box,

A square is like a box,

It has four sides they are the same,

A square is like a box.

Rectangle

A rectangle has four sides,

A rectangle has four sides,

Two are long and two are short,

A rectangle has four sides.

Triangle

A triangle has three sides,

A triangle has three sides,

Up and down and back again

A triangle has three sides.
