Year 6 blog:

Play Creators & Aladdin @ The Mayflower Theatre

This past week has been a whirlwind of creativity for our Year 6 students. On Monday, we kicked off our play creation project with a brilliant session led by staff from the Mayflower Theatre. The aim of the project is for children to practise their script writing skills and let their imaginations flow as they create their very own play, which will be performed on stage at the MAST Theatre by Southampton University Students. We focused on the following enquiry questions: What makes a great character? What is their backstory? What is their personality like? How does their clothing and choice of style reflect their emotions?

On Friday, we were lucky enough to visit the Mayflower Theatre to watch Disney's Aladdin. It was thrilling to see professional actors perform and dance as well as tell the story through the writer's words, giving Mansel Park’s Year 6 students lots of inspiration for the upcoming weeks. Stay tuned for more updates on this incredible play creators adventure for our young actors!
