Poetry by Heart:

Poetry By Heart

We received our results from the National Poetry By Heart Competition this week and were thrilled to hear how well our students performed! There were more than 3,000 entries into the competition in total, with more than 11,000 children across the country partaking in the initiative.

We are very proud of all of our KS2 students, who had to learn two poems by heart each, one from pre 1918, one from post 1918, to perform to an audience. Winners were chosen from each year group, and these individual performances were entered into the 'classic' category.

Each class also submitted a 'freestyle' group poem into the competition. Although we have not reached the final at the Globe Theatre this year, we are absolutely thrilled with the results of the competition, with all of our schools having had children awarded 'Commended' or 'Highly Commended' in their respective categories.

Across the partnership, one of our pupils at Holy Family was also awarded 'Best in County', which is a fabulous achievement, meaning this is the second year in a row that one of our schools has had a pupil awarded the accolade of being the very best performance poet in Hampshire!

We hope that taking part in this initiative will continue to inspire our pupils to read, write and perform poetry for pleasure!
