Year 1 - Parent Workshop:

Year 1 parents and pupils read Pip and Pap Phonics Book "A Sport Lesson" together today, in their parent and child workshop!

They recapped the grapheme phoneme correspondences:

'ay' /ai/ - in words such as 'display' and 'away'

'ou' /ow/ - in words such as 'proud' and 'shout'

'ie' /igh/ - in words such as 'cries' and 'tries'

'ea' /ee/ - in words such as 'teaching' and 'speaks'

They read sentences such as "It is a hot day! You must spray on some sun cream!" and "The rays from the sun are too strong. We cannot run in this heat," with excellent fluency and expression.

Children read the story beautifully to their parents, before answering questions about the story  - including making predictions and inferences, as well as sequencing the story and explaining the meanings of the words they came across.

In the story, it is too hot to run outside, so the class enjoy a swimming lesson instead! ! Parents and pupils talked together about how to stay safe in the sun and how to stay safe in the water. Then, they made their own 'swimming pictures' - aren't they fabulous? We wish that we could cool down in today's hot weather in a swimming pool!

We run Pip and Pap workshops every other week at Mansel Park, in Years R-2 - please ask your child's class teacher for more details!
